Overwhelming thoughts or negative beliefs about ourselves can keep us trapped in our minds, and when our inner critic is in control, we can go down spirals that seem to cement our beliefs of not being good enough, lovable enough, successful enough, etc. You may find that these harsh thoughts and beliefs feel out of your control and defining, leaving you feeling emotionally stressed and defeated. It can feel confusing, conflicting, and draining to battle this cycle of worry, fear, hopelessness, and distress…you might experience this as anxiety or depression. I know how tough this can be.
My approach to therapy is to help my clients take back control and overcome their unhelpful thoughts and/or beliefs by compassionately and empathetically exploring the origin and root cause of them – the “why” behind them and the “what” that has caused them, because often our life experiences unknowingly play a role in shaping our beliefs, perceptions, thoughts, and behaviors. Sometimes this happens in a dissonant way while occurring naturally throughout development, meaning we may not even be aware of it or have control over it…which can cause us to feel discouraged and stuck.
Through exploration of ourselves and our life in a safe, trusting environment, we can gain understanding, make meaning, and heal - allowing the chance for us to define who we are, instead of our adversities defining us. I believe Brene Brown, speaker and author, describes this best when she says, “owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.”
Everyone deserves the space to find freedom and healing. I’d love to sit alongside you, support you, and help guide you through this process of creating a life that feels fulfilling, peaceful, and gratifying.
